Assessment Event 2 – Presentation, Teaching Resource and Lesson Plans

Title: Promoting Early Literacy

Weighting: 40%

Due: Week 9, Presentations in Week 10- 11

Length: 10-minute presentation and three (3) experience plans (1x A4 double sided per lesson plan) to promote oral language development

Learning outcomes: 3 and 4 For this assessment:

Part A: Teacher resources
  • Create/find three activities (experiences to promote oral language); one for each of these age groups:
    • 1 x Babies
    • 1 x Toddlers
    • 1 x 3-5 year olds
  • Write up a concise and clear description of each activity, including:
    • A rationale based on oral language research
    • Learning priorities that support oral language development
    • The resources and preparation needed
    • Specific ways the activity supports oral language development
    • Theoretical and EYLF links
    • Teaching strategies, including effective questioning
Part B: 10- minute Presentation
  • Demonstrate one (1) of the activities above. The demonstration must show how the activity is facilitated and carried out, using props, materials, etc. as would be done in an early childhood
  • Students are to lead/facilitate the activity, involving the others in the class as a group of

Your assessment should show evidence that you have read widely on the topic beyond the supplied readings and texts. Your assessment must use correct referencing, in APA 7th style.
