INTRODUCTION

1.1 CASE STUDY DEFINITION

The analysis and behaviour of the part is defined at different conditions. Object is chosen considering its material properties and deflection levels when loads are applied. Research was done with different deformable parts having single material, which was hard to decide on. Model analysis at different load conditions with stresses and displacements were to be monitored to bring up a precise model and measurements.

1.2 AIM

The aim of this project is to design a CAD model of the existing plastic part using a CAD
software. As well, to deform the plastic part modelled in Creo Parametric using linear static
analysis and to apply loads in realistic experiment. Comparison of experimented results and
laboratory results is to be done and then, to scan the plastic part using Laser Scanning and to
observe in different angles using Virtual Reality system.

1.3 OBJECTIVES
• Is to use Creo parametric 3.0 feature to design and load to be applied on the plastic part.
• Simulation to be carried out by applying load less than 10N and to observe load conditions on two different sides, followed by the same appliance in laboratory as well.
• Usage of proper measuring tools in the laboratory and the precise noting of observations is to be monitored.

1.4 REPORT IN DETAIL
This details about the designing and simulation process, experimental set up and analysis of results. Detailed description on the following points can also be observed:
➢ Definition of model
➢ Generation of mesh
➢ Defining of mechanical properties of material
➢ Locating of constrains
➢ Magnitude and load distributions
➢ Application and interpretation of simulation results
➢ Doing Laser Scanning and its results
➢ Virtual Reality observations and results

2. METHODOLOGY

2.1 MODEL DEFINITION
The plastic part selected for experimentation is a Dough Scoop made of Poly Propylene, having material properties of:
• Density = 895.92 g/cm3
• Poison Ratio = 0.42
• Elastic Modulus = 1.265 Mpa
• Yield Strength = 35.7 Mpa
• Ultimate Tensile Strength = 40
• Coefficient of Thermal Expansion = (10-4 m/m-oC) 1.4-1.8

2.2 MODELLING
The scoop model was designed in Creo Parametric 3.0 software. Measurements were taken by Vernier Callipers and a 2D sketch is developed. By using features of software, model is developed by initiating with drawing a circle and then extruding it. Followed by plane translations and giving shell to the solid structure. Round command is used to give the fine edges. For the handle of scoop, plane translation is done initially, and a sketch is developed to extrude. Using the spline curve, we gave the inclined model on sides and then proceeding with cut extrude. Finally, round command is reused to make all fine corners and edges for a refine
and precise design.

Thickness of the plastic part is measured using Vernier Calliper. Thickness of magnitude 2.8mm is observed. Considering the errors, the approximate measure is taken as 3mm.

2.3 EXPERIMENTAL SET UP
A cost efficient and a simple method is adopted to perform an experiment in the laboratory. Scoop handle end is fixed with a clamp. A Vernier Callipers having least count 0.01mm is considered to measure the deflection. A flat box is fixed as a base, from which the height of Vernier is set zero considering the fixed scoop position. Eight loads were applied with ranging difference of 100gm between, till 800gm. Two load conditions are used: Point Load- at the tip of the scoop and Surface Load- in between of the top facing surface. Below given figures explains the experimental setup.
