Overview of Assignment

You will read a number of documents found in the literature on a topic of your interest and you will use the knowledge you have gained to write a review paper on the topic. Your conclusion can include a summary of the major developments made by engineers in the topic. In your conclusion, you can also highlight gaps (in the literature) in knowledge of your topic as well as the relevance of your topic in the future.

A literature review is not a report. You should argue the technical merits (and drawbacks) of a particular subject using literature to support the claims you make. The literature should, therefore, be of reputable nature and abundant. Will your future employer accept a website sourced formula?
In-text citations are a must.
Plan your assignment. Your writing must have a logical progression and 'flow'. This is particularly important in group work. Be sure to have an adequate review of collated work to construct a uniform and coherent submission.
Does your work look good at an "arms length"? Is the layout and format of; figures, tables, headings and text appropriate? Are the figures introduced in the text relevant and do they help convey the message?
Who is your audience? They are most likely engineers so be sure to use appropriate technical language. The audience will have a broad understanding so for the detailed concepts be sure to elaborate in sufficient detail.
Avoid: subjective, emotive and bias terms. This includes for example: "great", "excellent", "clean", "dirty", "biggest", "fairly", "a lot", "a bit" etc. If you want to compare quantities, use phrases like "X is 23% larger than Y" instead of "X is a lot bigger than Y".
