TIME’S UP CAMPAIGN GROUP ASSIGNMENT HELP

Background

Times up is a campaign about fighting to end sexual assault, harassment and inequality in the workplace. Times up addresses significant issues that are being faced in the modern workplace. Where women and men have affected unfairly one way or another, this campaigns aim is to stand up for what is right and what has been wronged for too long. According to Humanrights.gov.au, (2019), one in two women experience sexual assault in their lifetime and one in four men also experience sexual assault. These statistics alone are worrisome, proving that there is a major issue that needs to be taken under control as soon as possible. Making times up now campaign never more relevant to today’s modern-day workplace. 

This campaign started last year 1st of January 2018 with a funded legal defense, and now 365 days later times up legal defense fund has launched more than 3,800. That’s 3,800 women and men that’s been sexually assaulted, harassed or faced inequality in the workplace. Times up focuses on creating gender equality, equal pay and putting an end to sexual misconduct in the workplace. An example from (TIME'S UP Now, 2019) is how a young girl aged 15 working at McDonald’s was sexually harassed by an older male co-worker, when she did the right thing by reporting the sexual harassment to her manager, his response was poor “you will never win that battle”.  Which is why times up has never been more imperative to the modern workplace as these issues not only affect working women and men but young adults trying to balance work and school and the last thing they need is an unfair working environment, in which they don’t feel safe. It’s extremely important that everyone feels safe and protected as its every individual right. New standards of accountability were brought to attention where even powerful men who seemed untouchable for so long, are now being held accountable for their behaviors and actions. The clear campaign objectives are difficult to reach, never-the-less, it’s not impossible. It’s not impossible to create gender equality where men and women have the same rights and the same benefits that men get. The equal pay that they deserve and a workplace that is free from any type of unwanted attention and behavior, where everyone feels safe. This campaign was able to establish credibility it was funded with a $13 million legal defense. Times up was also supported by many women and men coming together to fight for what is right. However, the founders of times up now movement was the women in Hollywood coming together. In Helmore, (2019) article we can see the Hollywood finders of times up campaign which are Natalie Portman, Kerry Washington, Eva Longoria, Emma Stone, Rashida Jones and America Ferrera, many other women who ended up supporting Times up and what it stands for. The aim for these Hollywood stars was to help women who are less privileged and are unable to protect themselves from sexual misconduct, as well as the consequences that may arise from reporting any type of sexual misconduct. 

They support this campaign as they too are victims of being underpaid in comparison to men within the same field. Sexual harassment can happen to any women and men, another example is in Weaver, (2019) article, where Jennifer Lawrence was too a victim of sexual harassment. Jennifer Lawrence was made to take part in a naked lineup, that covered only private parts, with women which were much thinner than her. As degrading it is, this was in an attempt for her to see the comparison with the other women in the lineup and to use this image as motivation for her diet. With Hollywood celebrities standing up for these types of revolting behavior as well as being an advocate helps other women to stand up and fight as well. These incredible women fighting for both women and men for equality and eliminating all types of workplace misconduct, in hope that this campaign will achieve its goals and objectives.
